Instrument Panel







Instrument Panel

Special tools, testers and auxiliary items required

Special hook (3370)





Removing

Identify connectors before disconnecting to prevent confusion or for better allocation.

- Switch off ignition.

- Pull steering wheel with adjuster all the way out and adjust downward.

- Position front seat as far back as possible.

- Disconnect the battery ground wire with the ignition off.

- Remove steering wheel.

Four-spoke steering wheel through 05.04. Refer to => [ 4-Spoke Steering Wheel ] 4-Spoke Steering Wheel.

Three-spoke steering wheel through 05.04. Refer to => [ 3-Spoke Steering Wheel ] 3-Spoke Steering Wheel.

Four-spoke steering wheel from 06.04. Refer to => [ Steering Wheel ] Steering Wheel.

Three-spoke steering wheel from 06.04. Refer to => [ Steering Wheel ] Steering Wheel.


The spiral spring/return spring with slip ring must not be rotated out of center position (secure in installation position with adhesive tape).

- Remove left and right instrument panel cover - 1 - in - direction of arrow - using Special Hook (3370).





- Remove driver side storage compartment. Refer to => [ Driver Side Storage Compartment ] Driver Side Storage Compartment.

- Remove glove compartment. Refer to => [ Glove Compartment ] Glove Compartment.

- Remove passenger's airbag. Refer to => [ Front Passenger Airbag ] Front Passenger Airbag.

- Remove gap cover - 1 - in - direction of arrow -.





- Remove upper part of steering column trim upward from lower part - arrows -.





- Remove gap cover and disengage upper part of steering column trim from lower part.

- Remove bolts - arrows -.





- Pull instrument cluster out as far as possible.

- Press catch - 1 -, rotate retaining bracket in - direction of arrow - and remove connector to do so.





- Remove instrument cluster out of instrument panel.

- Using a flat-head screwdriver - 1 -, carefully pry off cover over center instrument panel speaker.





- Remove Sunlight Photo Sensor (G107) - 3 - out of instrument panel - 4 -.

- Disconnect electrical connector.

- Remove Central Locking -SAFE- Indicator Lamp (K133) - 2 - from instrument panel.

- Disconnect electrical connector.

- Remove the bolts - 2 -.





- Raise speaker - 1 - out of center defroster vent - 4 - and disconnect electrical connector - 3 -.

- Remove the Climatronic Control Module (J255).

- Remove the radio.

Vehicles with small radio slot:





- Unclip lower switch strip trim - 1 arrows -.

- Unclip upper switch strip trim with (3370) - arrow 2 -.

- Remove switch trim strip.

- Carefully remove buttons - 2 - and - 5 through 7 - from switch mount using (3370).





- Disconnect electrical connectors.

- Remove cupholder/storage compartment - 1 -. Refer to => [ Cupholder or Storage Compartment in Center Console ] Cupholder or Storage Compartment in Center Console.

Vehicles with large radio slot:





- Unclip lower switch strip trim - arrow 1 -.

- Unclip side switch strip trim with (3370) - arrow 2 -.

- Remove switch trim strip.

- Carefully remove buttons - 2 - and - 5 through 7 - from switch mount using (3370).





- Disconnect electrical connectors.

- Remove cupholder/storage compartment - 1 -. Refer to => [ Cupholder or Storage Compartment in Center Console ] Cupholder or Storage Compartment in Center Console.

All:





- Remove grab handles - 1 - and - 3 - on instrument panel - 2 - and center console - 4 -. Refer to => [ Left and Right Grab Handle ] Left and Right Grab Handle.

- Remove bolts - 4 - (quantity: 4) on instrument panel - 1 - and central tube - 2 -.





- Remove left - 5 - and right - 3 - airbag unit bracket.

- Remove upper A-pillar trim on left and right.

- Disconnect electrical connector - A - on Left Vent Temperature Sensor (G150) - B -.





- Disconnect electrical connector - A - on Right Vent Temperature Sensor (G151) - B -.





- Remove bolts - 1 - (quantity: 4) at instrument panel - 2 -/central tube - 3 - connection.





- Remove bolts - 4 - (quantity: 2) on instrument panel - 3 -.

- Remove bolts - 4 - (quantity: 6).





- Remove instrument panel - 3 -.

Installation





Installation is reverse of removal, but note the following:

- When sliding in instrument panel, ensure tabs - 1 - (quantity: 2) engage in box-shaped profile on bottom side of instrument panel.

- Make sure the various attachments engage correctly (audibly).

- Install passenger's airbag. Refer to => [ Front Passenger Airbag ] Front Passenger Airbag.

- Install glove compartment. Refer to => [ Glove Compartment ] Glove Compartment.

- Install driver side storage compartment. Refer to => [ Driver Side Storage Compartment ] Driver Side Storage Compartment.

- Install the radio.

- Install the Climatronic Control Module (J255).

- Install steering wheel:

Four-spoke steering wheel through 05.04. Refer to => [ 4-Spoke Steering Wheel ] 4-Spoke Steering Wheel.

Three-spoke steering wheel through 05.04. Refer to => [ 3-Spoke Steering Wheel ] 3-Spoke Steering Wheel.

Four-spoke steering wheel from 06.04. Refer to => [ Steering Wheel ] Steering Wheel.

Three-spoke steering wheel from 06.04. Refer to => [ Steering Wheel ] Steering Wheel.

Tightening Specifications






* Replace bolts and nuts.
