Selector Lever Cable







Selector Lever Cable

Removing

- Move the selector lever into "P".

- Remove ash tray or storage before selector mechanism.

Vehicles with a 2.0L TFSI Engine:

- Disconnect the connector - 1 - on the mass airflow (MAF) sensor (G70).





- Unclip the air intake connection - front arrows -.

- Remove the engine cover - rear arrows -.

Vehicles with a TDI CR Engine:

- Remove the engine cover - arrows -.





- Remove the air filter housing.

All Vehicles:

Selector lever in "P".

- Remove the securing clamps - C -.





- Move the securing clamps - A - and remove.

- Press selector lever cable from the transmission shift lever - arrow - and place above.

Do not bend or kink the selector lever cable.

Ignore - 1, B, D -.

- Lift the vehicle.

Vehicles with a TFSI engine:

- Remove the nuts - arrows - and pull the right floor cover on the inside slightly downward.





- Disconnect the connector - 1 -.





- Remove the coupling from the bracket - 2 - and free up the wire to the oxygen sensor after three way catalytic converter (G130).

All Vehicles:

- Remove the bolts - arrows - and the front floor panel crossmember.





To prevent damage, decoupling element of the front exhaust pipe must never be angled by more than 10°.

- Disconnect exhaust system at double clamp - 1 -.

- Remove the bracket for the exhaust system - arrows -.





- Tie the front exhaust pipe to the floor panel.

- Remove the nuts - 1 - and - 2 - and the underbody rear crossmember.





A second technician is needed to help remove the rear section of the exhaust system.

- Remove the exhaust system from the retaining straps - arrows -.

- Remove the rear muffler from the retaining straps and remove the rear section of the exhaust system.

- Loosen clips - arrows - and remove heat shield.





- Remove the lower cover from the selector mechanism - arrows -.





- Carefully slide the cover and protective sleeve forward over the selector lever cable. Do not damage protective surfaces when doing so.

- Remove the bolts - arrows -.






Risk of destroying the electrical components on the circuit board through static discharge.

Do not touch the circuit board - B - with your fingers.

The circuit board can only be replaced together with the selector mechanism function unit.

- Remove locking plate - A - from selector mechanism function unit by unclipping left and right retaining tabs.

This process is only possible if the selector lever is switched in the position "S".





- Remove the clip - 1 - for the selector lever cable from the selector mechanism function unit downward.

- Pull the plastic securing spring - 2 - forward slightly and press the pins - 3 - up only as far as necessary - arrow -.

Be sure not to push pins all the way out.

- Remove the selector lever cable - 4 - from selector mechanism function unit.

Do not bend or kink the selector lever cable.

Installation

Install in reverse order, paying attention to the following:

Tightening specifications, refer to => [ Selector Mechanism Overview up to 11.2009 ] Selector Mechanism Overview up to 11.2009.

Replace the selector lever cable securing clamps.

Check the protective casing for damage. The protective casing can only be replaced together wit the selector lever cable.

Check to see if the protective casing is seated correctly and is not twisted.

- Guide selector lever cable with protective casing into the cover. Do not damage protective surfaces when doing so.





- Insert the end of selector lever cable - 4 - into selector lever joint.

- Press pin - 3 - downwards - arrow - and check to see if it is locked by the plastic securing spring - 2 -.

- Insert the selector lever cable clip - 1 -.

Installed position: The angled end of circlip faces toward shift mechanism.


Risk of destroying the electrical components on the circuit board through static discharge.

Do not touch the circuit board - B - with your fingers.







- Clip in locking plate - A - and tighten bolts - arrows -.

- Mount the lower cover with the seal to the selector mechanism hand-tight - arrows -; pay close attention to the position of the seal.





- Insert the selector lever cable protective casing into the cover.

- Carefully press the selector lever cable on the transmission selector lever on the transmission away from the direction of the - arrow -.





- Install lock washer - A - and lock at bottom.

- Install the securing clamps - C -.

- Move the selector lever from "S" to "P".

Shift mechanism and selector lever cable must have freedom of movement during this, if necessary, replace selector lever cable or service shift mechanism.

- Move the selector lever into "P".

- Tighten bolts - arrows - for the lower cover.





- Install heat shield and CW coverings for underbody.

- Install the exhaust system free of tension.

- Install the air filter housing.
