Differential Overview

• Rear final drive removed

Observe general repair notes, refer to => [ General Repair Information ] General Repair Information.

Place the rear final drive in the assembly stand

* It is necessary to perform an adjustment if these parts are replaced. Refer to => [ Adjusting Overview ] Pinion and Ring Gear, Adjusting.





1 Vent

• With a rubber valve

• Installed position

2 Rear Axle Housing *

• Pinion, removing and installing, refer to => [ Drive Pinion Overview ] Drive Pinion Overview

3 Large Outer Race/Tapered Roller Bearing *

• Removing and installing, refer to => [ Differential ] Differential

4 Shim S1

• Write down the thickness

• For the adjustment overview, refer to => [ Adjusting Overview ] Pinion and Ring Gear, Adjusting

5 Rear Final Drive Cover*

• With O-ring

• Always replace the O-ring.

• Coat the O-ring with gear oil and install it.

6 TORX(R) Bolt

• 25 Nm

7 Seal

8 Hex Socket Bolt

• 25 Nm

9 Flange Shaft

• Removing and installing

10 Hex Bolt

• 35 Nm

• Rear final drive gear oil level, checking, refer to => [ Rear Final Drive Gear Oil, Checking ] Service and Repair

• Capacities and specifications, refer to => [ Engine Codes, Transmission Allocations, Ratios and Capacities ] Engine Codes, Transmission Allocations, Ratios and Capacities

11 Differential with Ring Gear*

• Disassembling and assembling, refer to => [ Differential ] Differential

12 Drain Plug

• 35 Nm

13 Bushing

• Holds the magnet in place

• Install all the way

14 Magnet

• Clean it each time it is removed

15 Outer Race/Small Tapered Roller Bearing *

• Removing and installing, refer to => [ Differential ] Differential

16 Shim S2

• Write down the thickness

• For the adjustment overview, refer to => [ Adjusting Overview ] Pinion and Ring Gear, Adjusting

17 Seal

• Replace, refer to => [ Flange Shaft Seals ] Rear Final Drive 01R (01AA,01EA,02XA,0A3A,01VA,09EA,09LA Transmission) Transmission, => [ Flange Shaft Seals ] Rear Final Drive 01R (01AA,01EA,02XA,0A3A,01VA,09EA,09LA Transmission) Transmission or => [ Flange Shaft Seals ] Audi A8

18 Flange Shaft

• Removing and installing

19 Hex Socket Head Bolt

• 25 Nm

20 Cover

• Installing

Place the Rear Final Drive in the Assembly Stand





Flange Shaft, Removing and Installing

- Remove the flange shaft bolt. While doing this, install the two bolts into the flange counterhold the flange shaft using a tire iron.





Installing the Cover





Vent Installed Position

After installing, the vent must extend 13 mm - dimension a - out of the housing.





The slit in the rubber valve is lengthwise with the direction of travel.
