Side Airbag Igniters (N199)/(N200)

Removing

Follow all safety precautions when working on pyrotechnic components. Refer to => [ Safety Precautions ] Service Precautions.

Follow the additional safety precautions when working with the side airbag. Refer to => [ Side Airbag Safety Precautions ] Side Airbag Safety Precautions.

Follow all regulations when disposing of pyrotechnic components. Refer to => [ Airbag, Belt Tensioner and Battery Cut-Out Units, Storage, Transporting and Disposal ] Airbag, Belt Tensioner and Battery Cut-Out Units, Storage, Transporting and Disposal.

- Remove the front seat:

Standard seat and Sport seat (manual), refer to => [ Manual Standard Front Seat ] Manual Standard Front Seat.

Standard seat, Sport seat (power) and Comfort seat, refer to => [ Power Standard Front Seat ] Power Standard Front Seat.

Super Sport seat, refer to => [ Super Sport Front Seat ] Super Sport Front Seat.

- Attach the front seat to the fixture for seat repair (VAS 6136). Refer to => [ Front Seat, Installing on the ] Front Seat, Installing on the Fixture For Seat Repair (VAS 6136).

- Remove backrest cover panel. Refer to => [ Backrest Cover and Backrest Frame Trim Overview ] Backrest Cover and Backrest Frame Trim Overview.

- Remove the front backrest:

Standard seat and Sport seat (manual) => [ Front Backrest ] Front Backrest.

Standard seat, Sport seat (power) and Comfort seat => [ Front Backrest ] Front Backrest.

Super Sport seat => [ Front Backrest ] Front Backrest.

- Remove the padding from the backrest until the side airbag bolt - 7 - is accessible. Refer to => [ Backrest Cover and Upholstery ] Backrest Cover and Upholstery To do this carefully pull off the cover - 2 - and the padding - 3 - in the area around the side airbag.






- Remove the bolt - 7 -.

Vehicles Equipped with a Manual Adjustable Seat:

- Release the side airbag - 6 - and hook - 5 - from the backrest frame- 4 - and remove the airbag from the pocket sewn into the cover - 1 - downward while guiding the side air bag wiring harness.

Versions with Power Seats:

- Release the side airbag - 6 - and the hook - 5 - from the backrest frame - 4 - and leave it in the pocket sewn into the cover - 1 -.

- Remove the cover and padding form the seat backrest => [ Backrest Cover and Upholstery ] Backrest Cover and Upholstery and remove the side airbag.

Installing

Follow all safety precautions when working on pyrotechnic components. Refer to => [ Safety Precautions ] Service Precautions.

Before handling pyrotechnical components (for example, connecting electrical connector), the person handling them must "discharge static electricity". For example, by briefly touching the door striker pin.

Install in reverse order of removal. Note the following:

Make sure the connectors are installed all the way in and are secure.

- The threaded bolt hole - 7 - must always be cleaned (for example, using a thread tap)






- Replace the bolt each time it are removed.

- Insert the bolts with locking compound; locking compound. For locking compound refer to the Electronic Parts Catalog (ETKA).

Connect the battery with the ignition switched on. Pyrotechnic components could deploy after connecting the battery if they were not repaired correctly. Individuals must not be inside the vehicle when connecting the battery.

- Connect the battery ground (GND) cable with the ignition turned on.

If the airbag indicator lamp (K75) indicates a fault after installation, the DTC memory must be checked, deleted and checked again using the vehicle diagnostic tester.
