Transmission, Removing

Special tools, testers and auxiliary items required

Engine support bridge (10 - 222 A)

Hook (10 - 222 A /10)

Hose Clamps up to 25 mm dia. (3094)

Transmission support (3282)

Pin (3282/29)

Adjustment plate (3282/42 A)

Engine/transmission Jack (V.A.G 1383 A)

Work procedure

Proceed as follows:

Observe general repair notes. Refer to => [ Repair Instructions ] Repair Instructions.

Observe cleanliness rules when working on transmissions. Refer to => [ Clean Working Conditions ] Clean Working Conditions.

Reinstall cable ties that were loosened or cut off during removal at same locations during installation.

- Place selector lever in position P.

- Disconnect electrical harness connector - 3 - from mass air flow (MAF) sensor (g70).





- Open clips - 1 and 2 - and remove air guide hose from mass air flow (MAF) sensor (G70).

- Remove front air intake nozzle from lock carrier - 4 -.

- Remove engine cover.

Risk of destroying electronic components when disconnecting the battery.

Observe measures for disconnecting battery.

- With ignition switched off, disconnect battery Ground (GND) wire.

- Remove securing plate - C -.





- Press securing plate - A - upward and remove.

- Press selector lever cable off of selector shaft lever - arrow - and remove from bracket - D -.

Selector lever cable must not be bent or kinked.

Ignore items - 1 and B -.

- Disconnect protective boot cable ties - arrow -.





- Disconnect electrical connector - 2 -.

- Fold back protective boot - 1 - and disconnect B+ wire from starter solenoid switch.

- Disconnect Ground (GND) wire - 3 -.

There is a risk of destroying the control module (Mechatronic) with static discharge.

Do not touch contacts in transmission connector with hands.

- To discharge static, touch vehicle ground with hand (without glove).

- Disconnect electrical connector - 4 - on transmission by turning screw connection counterclockwise.

- Clamp off coolant hoses on transmission oil cooler with Hose Clamps Up to 25 mm dia. (3094) and remove from cooler - A -.





To prevent dirt from entering, seal open lines and connections with clean plugs or protective caps.

- Remove lower starter bolt - 2 - (accessible from top).





- Remove upper starter bolt - 1 - and remove starter.

- Remove transmission to engine connecting bolts - 1, 3, 10 - accessible from above.





- Loosen clamp - 2 -.





- Remove nut - 3 -.

- Disconnect electrical connector - 4 -.

Disregard - 1 -.

- Position Engine Support Bridge (10 - 222 A) with the following tool components on upper edges of web plate:





Bracket for Engine (10 - 222 A /1), qty. 2

Adapter (10 - 222 A /4)

Connectors (T40091/3), qty. 2

- Install left adapter (T40093/3-2) and right adapter (T40093/3-3) on supports (T40093/3).





- Remove Ground (GND) wire from left long member.

- Remove left and right connecting bolt for front part of long member.

- Install adapters on long members with bolts that were removed earlier - arrow -.

The left side of the vehicle is shown in the illustration.

- Insert square tube (T40091/1) with connectors (T40093/4) in connector (T40091/3) and supports (T40093/3) as shown in illustration.





- Slide supports (T40091/2) with slide (T40093/5) into both connectors (T40093/4).





Risk of an accident due to loose support bridge parts.

Secure support (T40091/2) with pins and splints from connector (T40093/4).

Secure connector and supports with locking bolts.

- Install Bracket With Spindle and Hook (10 - 222 A /10) on slide and engine lifting eye.

- Pretension engine/transmission assembly with spindle, but do not lift.

- Remove both front wheels.

- Remove noise insulation in center by loosening fasteners - 1 through 4 -.





- Remove left and right noise insulation - arrows -.





- Remove noise insulation frame - arrow -.





- Remove air guide hose to charge air cooler by loosening spring clamp - 1 - and hose clamp - 2 -.





- Remove bolt - 1 - and remove intake supports downward.





Ignore items - 2, 3, 4 -.

- Remove nuts - arrows - and move bracket with electrical wires forward.





- Free up coolant hose from after-run coolant pump (V51) to radiator.

- Remove right drive shaft heat shield - arrows -.





- Remove left and right drive shafts from transmission flange shaft.

- Raise drive shafts and secure with cable ties.

Make sure drives axle protective coating is not damaged.

- Remove bolt - arrow - and remove right flange shaft from transmission.





- Remove bolts - 1 through 3 - and remove pendulum support.





- Disconnect electrical connector - 3 - on left front level control system sensor (G78).





- Remove bolt - 2 -.

Ignore - 1 -.

- Press left ball joint off wheel bearing housing.





- Pull suspension strut outward slightly and support.

- Remove bolts - 1 - and - 2 - and remove transmission plate - A -.





- Lower engine/transmission assembly on Engine Support Bridge (10 - 222 A) spindle until dimension - a - is created between transmission housing and transmission mount.





Dimension - a - = 100 to 110 mm

To remove Direct Shift transmission 02E, the Transmission Support (3282) is equipped with adjustment plate (3282/42A) and positioned on Engine/transmission jack (V.A.G 1383 A).





An all wheel drive vehicle is shown in the illustration, the mounting points for front and all wheel drive are the same.

- Align arms of the transmission support to correspond with holes in adjustment plate (3282/42A).

- Install support elements as shown on adjustment plate (3282/42A). The - retaining plate with hole - is used as a front support element.

- Place Engine/transmission jack (V.A.G 1383 A) under vehicle.

The arrow symbol on adjusting plate points in direction of travel.

- Align transmission support (3282) parallel to transmission.

- Install bolt (3282/29) into transmission.

- Attach - retaining plate with hole - firmly to transmission - arrow - as shown in illustration.

- Insert last support elements in transmission as shown in illustration.

- Support transmission with Engine/transmission jack (V.A.G 1383 A) by lifting from below.

- Remove remaining transmission to engine connecting bolts - 5 through 9 -.





- Press off transmission from alignment sleeves.

- Pull transmission from engine.

- Carefully lower transmission using Engine/transmission jack (V.A.G 1383 A).

- When lowering, change position of transmission with spindles on Transmission Support (3282).
