Initial Inspection and Diagnostic Overview
Prior to considering the Motronic system as cause for driveability or emissions related complaint, ensure that engine and all related systems are in satisfactory operating condition and that all adjustment values are within specifications. In order to isolate components or sub-systems that may be the cause of the complaint, road test vehicle under a variety of operating conditions, noting engine performance, and refer to troubleshooting chart. If a malfunction occurs, inspect all components for proper installation, check wiring, and vacuum hoses for proper routing and connection, correct as needed and retest vehicle. If the malfunction persists, test sub-systems indicated in troubleshooting chart as outlined in Diagnosis and Testing, and/or test components individually as outlined in ignition or fuel injection sections.
