SUBJECT:
Erroneous Check Control Fault Displays

MODELS:
7 Series (E32), 5 Series (E34)

Sporadic Check Control fault displays may be encountered when no actual fault exists in the peripheral systems. These displays consist of:

"Brake Light"
"Tail Light"
"Lic Plate Light"

Cause:
Electromagnetic interference in the [1][2]Lamp Control Module (LKM).

Correction:
Replace the [1][2]Lamp Control Module (LKM) with one bearing a production date of week 15/93 or later.





Date codes for the [1][2]Lamp Control Module (part numbers 61 35 8 350 344 and 61 35 8 351 297) vary by manufacturer. See illustration.

Additionally, there will be a distinguishing mark added to the LKM for a short transition period. These marks consist of an "E" printed to the right of the module identification for modules manufactured by Draexlmeier (e.g., LKM-L US E), or a green dot to the left of the label for modules manufactured by Loewe.

Parts Information:
Part numbers for the LKM remain unchanged. Only LKMs manufactured week 15/93 and later are stocked.

Parts and labor are reimbursable under the terms of the applicable BMW

New Car Limited Warranty.
