Operation CHARM: Car repair manuals for everyone.
Manuals through 2025 now available!

Our trusted friends have launched a new website named LEMON, which has newer manuals. It also contains all the CHARM manuals.

LEMON is the spiritual successor to CHARM, I recommend you try it!

Air Flow Meter/Sensor: Testing and Inspection

1. Remove the air flow meter harness connector and measure continuity between the following terminals at the meter electrical connector (male plug). Measure between pins:

7 and 26 = Continuity If not, replace the air flow meter.
7 and 12 = Continuity If not, replace the air flow meter.

2. Reconnect the air flow meter harness connector and remove the insulating cover from the rear of the connector.
3. Turn the ignition switch to the RUN position.
4. Measure the voltage between gray/yellow wire (terminal 2) and ground while moving the intake air flap manually.

Voltage should vary smoothly between approximately 0.5 and 4.5 volts. Sharp intermittent variations indicate shorts or corrosion.

NOTE: Voltage does not increase in linear fashion.

If the correct measurement is not obtained or the flap sticks or binds in the meter, replace the air flow meter.
