Knock Sensor: Service and Repair


REMOVAL
- Interrogate fault memory of engine control unit.
- Switch "Off" ignition.
- Remove intake manifold.

CAUTION: Mark plug connections of knock sensors on the wire harness! Incorrect assembly of plug connection points during assembly can cause engine damage!

Knock Sensor R&R:





- Disconnect plug connections (1) and (2). Plug is located below the idling speed control (idling speed control not shown in this picture.)

Knock Sensor R&R:





- Unfasten screw (1) and remove knock sensor for cylinders 1 to 3.

NOTE: Knock sensor for cylinder 1 to 3 is located under the temperature sensors near the ventilation spigot on the alternator.

Knock Sensor R&R:





- Unfasten screw (2) and remove knock sensor for cylinders 4 to 6.

INSTALLATION:
- Clean contact surfaces of knock sensors on engine block.
- Reinstall in reverse order
- Torque to 20 Nm (14 ft. lb.)
