Air Flow Meter/Sensor: Description and Operation

Air Flow Meter/Air Intake Sensor:

PURPOSE
The air flow meter measures the amount of air entering the intake manifold, providing the Digital Motor Electronic (DME) control unit with precise air volume information.

OPERATION
As air is drawn into the engine, the sensor door is deflected, which causes the wiper contact of the potentiometer to move. The changing potentiometer position modifies an output reference voltage from the DME control unit. The modified voltage is then interpreted by the control unit as a representation of the volume of air entering the engine.
