Operation CHARM: Car repair manuals for everyone.

Service Interval Display

DESCRIPTION AND OPERATION
The service indicator cluster indicates when periodic service is required. It consists of 5 green, 3 red (1 red from 1986), 1 yellow LED, and two indicators inscribed OIL SERVICE and INSPECTION.

When the ignition switch is turned to the "On" position, as many as 5 green LEDs will be illuminated. The green LEDs will go out when the engine is started. If the yellow LED and one of the indicators illuminate with the ignition switch in the On position, and remain "On" after the engine has started, perform the service indicated immediately. When a periodic service interval has been exceeded by 1000 miles or more, a red LED will light as well as the yellow LED as a reminder for service.

After completing the required service, the Service Indicator can be reset.

NOTE: A BMW special tool is required to reset the Service Indicator System. Aftermarket reset tools can also be purchased from various tool manufacturers.
