M52, S52 With Auto Transmission

Removing and installing/replacing starter motor (M52, S52 with automatic transmission)

Note instructions for disconnecting and connecting battery. Refer to Service Precautions. Technician Safety Information

Disconnect battery ground wire and mask it.
Remove intake air manifold, refer to Powertrain Management - Fuel Delivery and Air Induction - Intake Air Plenum - Service and Repair - Procedures Service and Repair






- Unfasten nut and remove cable.

Installation:
- Note line routing.
- Tightening torque, refer to chart below






- Brace nuts on starter screw connection and unfasten upper and lower screws on starter from transmission end with suitable extension.

Installation:
- Tightening torque, refer to chart below






- Unfasten nut (1) on support and remove starter.






Installation:

- Check starter pinion and starter crown gear for damage.
- Dismantling and reassembling starter motor, refer to Disassembling and Assembling Starter Motor Disassembling and Assembling Starter Motor
