Fluid Pan: Service and Repair
Removing and installing/Sealing or Replacing Both Transmission Oil Pans (A4S 270R/310R)
Drain automatic transmission fluid.
Unscrew oil sumps.
Remove gaskets and clean sealing faces.
Note: Bolts are micro-encapsulated and must be replaced after each removal.
Position seals for oil sump.
Place magnet in large oil sump. Install oil sumps and insert all screws until contact is made with screw head in each case.
Caution: Do not tighten screws crosswise and do not tighten screws any further.
Tighten down screws to torque in sequence in one pass.

Version with oil filler pipe:
Take out oil dipstick.
Caution: Locking oil dipstick:
Tilt handle to unlock oil dipstick for removal.
Fill system with automatic transmission fluid,
Note: Use special tool 24 0 080 for filling.
Car must be unloaded and stationary on a level surface
Check fluid level with selector lever in position "P" and engine at idling speed; top up fluid if necessary.
Never wipe off oil dipstick with a cloth which loses lint.
Check transmission fluid temperature with MoDiC or DIS.

Remove dipstick, check fluid level (H) and compare with table.
Oil level too high:
Strong foaming, loss through splashing, high temperatures at high speeds.
Oil lost through vent.
Oil level too low:
Rattling of valves, foaming, spinning of engine. General malfunction.
Version without filler pipe:
Oil filler pipe was discontinued as of 2.91.
Fluid is poured into the automatic transmission through the filler opening on the side of the oil sump.
Note: Car must be unloaded and stationary on a level surface
Unscrew filler plug (1).
Suspend filler neck (2) in filler opening.
Pour in automatic transmission fluid up to overflow.
Start engine and run engine at idling speed with selector lever in position "P" or "N".
Top up automatic transmission fluid up to overflow. Increase fluid temperature to 30 - 55°C.
Check transmission fluid temperature with MoDiC or DIS.
Check fluid level again and top up if necessary.
Insert filler plug (1) with a new sealing ring and tighten.
