Wheel Hub: Service and Repair


Replacing bearings (wheel hub) for front wheel

Removing brake disc, refer to Brakes.
Removing ABS impulse sensor, refer to Antilock Brake System.





Remove grease cap.

Installation:
Always replace grease cap after removal and install new cap with sealing compound.





Unlock collar nut with a cross-chisel.

Installation:
Lock collar nut.





Unscrew collar nut using special tool 31 2 080.

Installation:
Replace collar nut.
Tightening torque, refer to Specifications.
Lock collar nut.





Pull off bearing unit with special tools 31 2 102/105/10 on wheel bolts (1).

Caution:
Never re-use a pulled-off bearing unit.





Caution:
If inside bearing inner ring remains on stub axle after pulling off bearing unit, unscrew guard plate.
If necessary, bend the dust guard plate to enable guar plate to be removed.





Bend back dust guard plate (1) and apply pulling claws of special tool 00 7 500 behind bearing inner race (2).
Pull off bearing inner race with special tools 00 7 500 and 31 2 106.





Note: Correct assembly of extractor claws on special tool 00 7 500.





Installation:
If applicable, install guard plate.





Screw in guide sleeve (1) of special tool 31 2 110 for entire length of threads and pull on new bearing unit.
