ASC Switch

The Automatic Slip Control (ASC) system is switched "ON" every time the ignition is turned on. Once the self check is performed by the control module, the system is in a standby mode and ready for regulation any time the wheel slip values exceed the programmed threshold values programmed in the control module. The ASC switch in the center console can be used to switch the System "OFF" at any time. The system should be switched off for the following conditions:

^ Driving with snow chains
^ When wheel spin is required to "rock" the vehicle from a snow bank
^ When the vehicle tire conditions are not similar - tread depth, air pressure or rolling circumference differences.

Two different switches are used depending on the model year of the system. The first system used a console mounted switch that provided the system's operating status and the flash codes for diagnosis.

On later systems with traction control, the system's operating status was moved to the instrument cluster in the form of an indicator lamp.

The ASC switch is a switched power input that informs the control module of the driver's wish to switch the system OFF.
