Service Interval Indicator

Service Interval Indicator

The Service Interval indicator is integrated into the instrument cluster. It consists of a row of LED's and two indicators displaying "OIL SERVICE" and "INSPECTION". The row of LED's signifies the length of time remaining before an inspection or oil service.

The row of LED's are only illuminated when the ignition switch is first turned to the "ON" position and will stay on for approximately eight seconds. The row of LED's is made up of:

With a new or recently serviced vehicle, all five of the green LED's are illuminated with the ignition key turned to ON just prior to engine starting. Over a period of time and accumulated mileage, the number of illuminated green LED's will reduce.

When service is due all green LED's will be out and the yellow LED will be lit and stay on when the engine is running. Additionally, "Oil Service" or Inspection will be illuminated indicating what type of service is required.

If the service is not performed the red LED will also illuminate and stay on when the engine is running after an additional 1000 miles has accumulated.

When service is performed Service Interval Indicator is reset using the BMW Service Interval Indicator Reset Tool (P/N 88 88 6 621 100).
