Steptronic Equipped Shifter Inputs

Steptronic Equipped Shifter Inputs

Vehicles equipped with the Steptronic manual/automatic shifting system include additional inputs not found on a conventional system.

The AGS control module monitors the Steptronic Shifter position from P thru D via the conventional range selector switch located on the transmission. The Range Selector Switch provides positions P thru D to the AGS because the automatic gate of the shifter only travels through these positions.

When the Steptronic Shifter is moved to the left 15° into the manual gate, the AGS receives a switched ground signal from the manual gate switch. The ground signal is provided to the AGS thorough the Transmission Position Indicator. The Transmission Position Indicator also provides range position signalling to the Range Position indicator in the shift console.

When the AGS receives the Manual switch ground signal it operates as follows:

850Ci = Continues to operate in the automatic mode until it receives a momentary ground signal from the Step Up or Step Down shift switch.

840Ci & 740i Sport = Changes to the sport mode shift characteristics map. When it receives a ground signal from the Step Up or Step Down shift switch is changes to the manual mode of operation.
