Coolant Temperature Sensor/Switch (For Computer): Service and Repair




Replacing Coolant-Temperature Sensor (M62)


NOTE:
After completing work, fill and vent cooling system and check for leaks,

Coolant,
refer to BMW Service Operating Fluids MG17.
Interrogate fault memory of DME control unit. Switch off ignition.







Cars with idle-speed control valves only:
Unfasten plug connection (1).

Installation:
Top up coolant.

Unscrew and remove double temperature sensor (1) for Digital Motor Electronics (DME) and remove coolant indicator.
Tightening Torque,
refer to Technical Data 13 62 2AZ.

Senders For Control Unit:











Cars without idle-speed control valves only:
Sensor is fitted on water pipe at front.
Disconnect vacuum lines (1).
Detach plug from sensor (2).







Unscrew sensor (2).
Tightening Torque,
refer to Technical Data 12 62 4AZ.

Senders For Control Unit:





Installation:
Replace sealing ring.

All cars:
Interrogate fault memory of DME control unit, check faults in memory then cancel fault memory.
