Tie Rod: Service and Repair



Replacing Left or Right Tie Rod Assembly

Caution!
After assembly, align front axle.





If necessary, remove front wheel.
Unscrew and remove splash guard.
Unfasten nut.
Pull off tie rod with special tool 32 3 090.

Installation:
Remove grease from pin and bore. Replace self-locking nut.
Hex screw on bearing block for adjustment of steering wheel
Self locking nut 3.0 Nm
Note:
1. Tighten nut hand tight (adjusting lever in clamped position)
2. Open and close lever.
3. Tighten nut 4.0 Nm
4. Open and close lever.
5. Tighten nut 4.8 Nm
6. Open and close lever
7. Tighten nut 4.8 Nm





Loosen clamp and slide back bellows.

Caution!
To avoid damage to rack and to suspension mounting, move rack in as far as possible.

Remove steering tie rod from rack.

Installation:
Mounting block for steering wheel adjustment to carrier of instrument panel
M8 22 Nm

Note: Determine measurement (A) on old tie rod and adjust new tie rod to this measurement-this makes wheel alignment easier.





Pay attention to clamping ring (1) with nut.
Install new boot.
