MoDiC Components

MoDiC Electronics: The electronics consist of a processor and two megabytes of SRAM (Static Random Access Memory).

The memory stores the coding/programming software programs. The processor utilizes the loaded software to carry out coding and programming procedures.

Keypads: The keypads are broken up into three groups. The first group contains the "Y", "N", "C" and "(-)" keys.
- The "Y" and "N" keys are used for yes and no responses to questions in the display.
- The "C" key will clear software from the MoDiC memory if needed when loading new programs. The clear function is only available when connected to the MoDiC Station or the vehicle connector when a "C" is posted in the upper right corner of the display.
The "C" key also posts help displays based on the current display if there is a "C" present in the right upper corner of the display.
- The "(-)" key is sometimes called the "hamburger button". It functions like an enter key on a computer keyboard. Once an item is selected, the hamburger button must be pressed to confirm the selection.

The arrow keys are used for screen navigation and selecting numbers or letters in the display, ie: entering a VIN. The number keys are used for direct entering of numbers.

Display: The LCD display provides information for coding and programming procedures. The display is arranged as follows:

Connector: The connector plugs into the vehicle diagnostic connector. The MoDiC communicates with vehicle control modules via the connector/cable.

The pin configuration of the connector was upgraded in 4-95. The new cable (P/N 81 12 9 428 912) was required for updated system compatibility. This updated cable must be connected to the MoDiC. Refer to SI Bulletin 04 28 94 (4128).
