Compressor HVAC: Service and Repair

Replacing Air Conditioning Compressor (M50, M52)

NOTE:Remove underbody protection.
Drawing refrigerant out of air conditioner.
Replace drier bottle if needed.

Loosen drive belt.
Insert Allen key in tensioning roller screw and turn slowly clockwise. This compresses the tensioner, thus slackening the drive belt.

Installation:
Note arrangement of drive belt

When installing drive belt, compress tensioning element and loop belt over belt pulleys and check for correct position in grooves.

Unscrew couplings and disconnect suction and pressure lines.

Unscrew bolts, disconnect plug-in connection and lift out compressor in downwards direction.

Installation:
Drain remaining cold oil from old compressor and pour into a measuring container. Also pour extracted refrigerant from service station into the measuring container and note the total quantity of oil.
Refrigerant from air-conditioning system and old compressor cannot be re-used: dispose of this fluid in the correct way.
Clean measuring container.

Drain all refrigerant from new compressor into a suitable container and refill compressor with correct quantity of refrigerant as calculated beforehand.

NOTE: Remaining refrigerant can be poured into service station tank. Refrigerant must be disposed of in the correct way. Do not store refrigerator oil in open containers because it is a very hygroscopic fluid.
