Operation CHARM: Car repair manuals for everyone.

General Information

Introduction

The purpose of this module is to expose new BMW Technicians to Service Maintenance Schedules and procedures unique to BMW.

Regular scheduled services and maintenance when performed properly help to avoid unexpected break downs and repairs and reduce the cost of ownership.

Since Model Year 2000 all BMW vehicles are covered by a standard Full Maintenance program of 36 months and 36,000 miles (750iL standard plan is 4 years/50,000 miles). Full maintenance programs include all factory recommended services as listed in the BMW Service and Warranty booklet, plus replacement of wear items such as brake linings, brake rotors, belts and wiper inserts. These programs are a benefit designed to cover all scheduled maintenance or additional required maintenance costs.

Time intervals should be followed using the maintenance interval as indicated by the BMW Service Indicator System.

BMW's Scheduled Services are:

- Quality Certification I (part I and II)
- 1200 mile Service (some models)
- Oil Service
- Inspection I
- Inspection II

Service requirements change frequently, therefore it is important that the correct checklists are used when performing all services, this prevents oversight of steps that need to be performed for each different service.

Service Maintenance Checklists are sent automatic shipment for each model year. To order additional checklists use the Service Engineering Materials Ordering forms. The item numbers are published in S.I. 00 24 89.
