13 51 060 - Checking, removing and installing/replacing high-pressure pump for cylinders 1-6 (N73)





Recycling:
Fuel escapes when fuel lines are detached.
Catch and dispose of escaping fuel.
Observe country-specific waste-disposal regulations.





Check pressure damper diaphragm of high-pressure pump for leaks.
Connect an 8 mm inside dia. fuel hose (2) to special tool (1) 13 0 133 collection container.





Connect special tool 13 0 133 to ventilation connection (1) of high-pressure pump.
Do not press brake pedal to floor.
Switch on ignition.
Electronic fuel pump starts up for approx. 2-5 secs.
If the diaphragm of the high-pressure pump is leaking, fuel emerges at the ventilation connection.
Follow diagnosis instructions if the diaphragm is leaking.





Warning!
Disconnect battery negative terminal Instructions for Disconnecting and Connecting Battery (risk of fire due to short-circuiting on removal).





Necessary preliminary tasks:
- Remove intake air manifold Service and Repair





Detach line (2).
Detach cable (3).
Tightening torque:13 53 1AZ 13 53 Fuel Injection Nozzles and Pipes
Detach line (4).
Tightening torque: 13 53 2AZ 13 53 Fuel Injection Nozzles and Pipes
Detach line (5).
Tightening torque: 13 53 3AZ 13 53 Fuel Injection Nozzles and Pipes
Disconnect connector (1).
Release screws (6).
Tightening torque: 13 51 1AZ 13 51 Injection Pump, Control, Mixture Regulator.

Note:

Replace O-ring (1).





Remove bucket tappet (1) in direction of arrow.

Installation:
If necessary, replace bucket tappet (1).

Installation:
Secure lines (2) from bottom upwards with a suitable line wrench (1).





Assemble engine.
Check function of DME.
