SUBJECT
M54 "Check Filler Cap" Lamp Illuminates after Refueling

MODEL
E83 3.0iA (X3) M54 (MS45.1) with automatic transmission produced from 8/03 to 6/06

[NEW] E83 3.0i (X3) M54 (MS45.0) with manual transmission produced from 8/03 to 6/06

SITUATION
The customer complains that after refilling the vehicle, the "Check Filler Cap" lamp is illuminated and the fault code "29AE Tank Flap" is stored in the DME. This situation is more likely to occur shortly after refueling, especially if additional fuel was added after the station pump initially clicked off.

CAUSE
DME software calibration

[NEW] CORRECTION
Follow the diagnostic test plans to check the operation of the DMTL system and components.

Reprogram the DME using ISTA/P 2.34 or higher.

WARRANTY INFORMATION
Covered under the terms of the BMW New Vehicle Limited Warranty.

Please refer to the latest KSD for all applicable labor operations and allowances.

If the appropriate labor operation is not contained in KSD, then a work time labor operation should be used.
