Replacing Airbag Control Unit - I



Removing And Installing Airbag Control Unit

Special tools required:
- 11 4 190

WARNING:
Note airbag safety instructions.
Incorrect handling can activate airbag and cause injury.
Disconnect battery negative lead and cover.
Check system after installation.

Vehicle with rear compartment fan:







Remove complete rear compartment fan.
Release screws (1) and remove cover (2).







Disconnect plug connection (1).
Release nuts (2) and lift off airbag control unit (3).

Installation:
Ensure grounding cable (4) is correctly laid.
Tightening torque.
1AZ Airbag control unit
E53 8.8 Nm

Vehicle without rear compartment fan:







Remove fresh air grill in footwell.
Unclip carpet on left and right.
Disconnect plug connection (1).
Release nuts (2) with special tool 11 4 190.
Raise airbag control unit (3) slightly and pull out.

Installation:
Ensure grounding cable is correctly laid.
Observe Tightening torque.
