Replacing Pulse Generator On Crankshaft (S54)

Turn off ignition.
Remove reinforcement plate on front axle support.


CAUTION: The section "Removing and installing reinforcement plate on front axle support" contains important installation instructions.


NOTE: Installation location of pulse generator for crankshaft is underneath starter motor.







Unlock plug (1) and detach from distributor housing (2).


NOTE: For a better overview, the intake air manifold is not shown.







Release screw.



Unclip cable of pulse generator (1) from holder (2).
Remove pulse generator (1).


NOTE: For a better overview, this work step is shown on an engine that has been removed and without the starter motor.


NOTE:
Interrogate fault memory of DME control unit.
Check stored fault messages.
Rectify faults.
Then clear fault memory.
