PROCEDURE - DIAGNOSIS
In case of a customer complaint, perform the following procedure.

1. Perform a short test on the vehicle using the DISplus or GT-1.
- If the TCU is found during the short test continue normal diagnosis.
- If the TCU is NOT found when the short test is performed, continue with step 2.

2. Allow the vehicle to assume sleep mode.
3. Remove the 54 pin connector at the TCU for 2 minutes, then reconnect.
4. Perform an individual short test on the TCU using the DIS or GT1.
5. Is the DIS/GT1 now communicating with the TCU?
- No, continue normal diagnosis.
- Yes, a TCU software update is available to correct the problem.

6. Check the vehicle history report on DSCnet to see if the vehicle is covered by service action # 00 84 31 01 00. If this service action has not been performed, it should be performed to resolve the customer's concern.

26. If the TCU repair failed, it must be replaced. Follow step 31 below. (check value = 2, 3, 4)

Note: If a check value of "1"is displayed on the final report, try reprogramming the TCU again using the MOXA box. If a check value of "1" is displayed a second time the TCU should be replaced.

Inactive BMW Assist Subscribers

Note: Disconnecting the MOXA harness before the TCU powers down may damage the TCU.

30. Proceed to step 42 for active BMW Assist subscribers. It is not necessary to check the function of BMW Assist for non BMW Assist subscribers.

TCU REPLACEMENT PROCEDURE

31. Refer to SI B84 23 05 (Enhanced Support for BMW Assist Telematics Control Unit (TCU) with Bluetooth & CPT9000 Phone Systems) prior to replacing the TCU.

32. Refer to TIS (RA 84 11...) for the TCU replacement procedure.

39. The Telematics functionality will not be repaired but new TCU software will be programmed into the TCU to eliminate adverse side effects of a defective NAD and software to stop the TCU from locking up will be programmed into the TCU.

40. Verify the repair.
- E.g. if there was a Bluetooth functionality issue, check to make sure all Bluetooth Telephone functions works without errors.
- E.g. elimination of red LED on Board Monitor or on the Multi Information Display (MID) being permanently illuminated.
41. Do not attempt to test BMW Assist functionality.

Note: For customers who would like to renew BMW Assist services, refer to SI B84 22 05 (Reactivation of BMW Assist Services) prior to answering the question in step 6 or 23.

TEST OF BMW ASSIST SERVICES

42. Test the BMW Assist" service for proper operation by placing a test call (press the Roadside Assistance "Wrench" button). Make sure the BMW Assist Response Center has received the correct MIN/MDN, VIN and location of the vehicle. Have the representative update their records as needed.
