Electrical - Battery Chager Causes Fault Codes to Set
SI B 61 23 06October 2006
General Electrical Systems
Technical Service
This Service Information bulletin supersedes S.M. B61 204 03 dated November 2003.
SUBJECT
Battery Charger Cause Faults to be Set
MODEL
Vehicles with an Intelligent Battery Sensor (IBS), including E60
SITUATION
The battery charger is connected directly to the battery. If the battery is connected directly to the battery, the IBS senses current being drawn by the vehicle electrical system, but with a battery voltage that remains constant. This causes faults to be set.
INFORMATION
When using the battery charger on a vehicle with an IBS, the battery charger must be connected to the battery terminal under the hood.
