SUBJECT
Window Regulator Rattling Noise
MODEL
E46 (3 Series) with four door models
SITUATION
Some owners may complain of a rattle from inside the front door when it is slammed shut.
Upon inspection of the window regulator installed in the car, it is found to be of the latest design, and there are no problems noted with the regulator itself.
CAUSE
The nuts retaining the regulator may have loosened slightly, allowing the regulator to move, which can cause the same noise as a defective regulator.
CORRECTION
On a customer complaint basis, replace the retaining nuts.
PROCEDURE
Replace the nuts (front 5, rear 3) with part number 07 14 7153 450 and torque to 9.5 Nm.
Also, whenever a regulator is removed, the retaining nuts should be replaced.
