Controller

CON controller power supply
Detailed functional description, see BMW Technology: TIS -> Document -> SI Technology -> Enter SBT number
SBT number: -> 62 01 03 027

The controller (CON) is only installed in the 1 Series and 3 Series as of E87 depending on the variant.

Versions of the controller
The controller is available as a basic version and as a high version.

The high variant of the controller is fitted in vehicles with CCC until 09/2008.
The high variant has a motor that can create variable rotational resistance on the control button. The rotational resistance (e.g. end stop, detents) is controlled by the CCC.
The high version can distinguish between 8 different shifting directions on the control button. The 4 diagonal directions are only used for the navigation system.

The basic version of the controller is fitted in vehicles with CHAMP, M-ASK and CIC.
The basic version has only a mechanical rotational resistance on the control button. This means that the control button always has the same rotational resistance (detents) and no end stop.
The basic version can distinguish 4 shifting directions.

Supply lines of the controller
The controller is supplied across the following cables:
- Ground lead
- Positive cable from terminal 30g
- K-CAN connection (K-CAN-High and K-CAN-Low)

Bus communication of the controller
The controller sends the status of the control button (shifting direction, detected rotation, button of the control button) and the status of the additional buttons via the K-CAN. The recipient of this CAN message is the head unit.

The motor of the control button of the high version is controlled via the K-CAN. The sender of this CAN message is the CCC.

The button illumination is activated controller by the controller. For activation, the controller uses the CAN message of terminal 58g (comes from FRM).
