SUBJECT
6L45R Transmission with AWD Leaks from the Selector Shaft Seal

MODEL
E90, E91, E92, and X3 xDrive vehicles with N51 or N52K engines and the 6L45R transmission (GM6) produced from 6/1/2010 to 11/1/2010

SITUATION
Transmission oil is leaking from the selector shaft sealing cover on the left-hand side of the transmission. This can, at first glance, appear to be a leaking transmission pan gasket.

CAUSE
A leaking or displaced selector shaft sealing cover located on the left side of the GM6 transmission

CORRECTION
Replace the sealing cover as described in ISTA REP 2414005 - Replacing sealing cap for selector shaft (GA6L45R).

[NEW] Use the tool included in the kit and be careful about assembly direction.

[NEW] Check and top off the automatic transmission fluid as described in ISTA.

[NEW] A further 2-hour sealant curing time is then required before the vehicle should be driven.
