Throttle valve 2: Spring test, lower return spring fault

Fault description
The diagnostic function monitors the throttle valve
adaptation.

Condition for fault identification
Test condition:
The fault is recognized when the return spring cannot
reposition the throttle valve 2 from the 2.5� position to the
emergency-air position of 5.2� within the specified period
(roughly 0.6 sec.).
Potential problem source(s):
- Operation of throttle valve 2 impaired by
dirt/contamination
- Defect in wiring harness between DME and throttle valve
2
- Throttle valve 2 defective
Terminal condition: Terminal 15
Voltage condition:
- Electrical system voltage > 10 V
Temperature condition:
- Intake air temperature > -10 °C
- Coolant temperature > -10 °C
- Coolant temperature < 142 °C
Time condition:
- 5 sec.
Other conditions:
- Engine off
- No other throttle valve diagnostic fault codes logged in
control module fault memory

Condition for fault memory entry
This fault is logged in the control module's fault memory
immediately.

Action in service
- Inspect throttle valve 2 for contamination
- Check wiring harness between DME and throttle valve 2
- Replace throttle valve

Fault effect and breakdown warning
Breakdown notice:
- The engine reverts to its limp-home program, continued
vehicle operation is possible but drivability is restricted,
because power is reduced the driver should refrain from
passing maneuvers.
Possible apparent symptoms:
- Power reduction
- Engine speed governed
