54 10 020 Removing and Installing Mechanism For Front Glass Lid
54 10 020 Removing and installing mechanism for front glass lid
Also comply with the interactive 3D instructions for the removal and installation of the glass slide/tilt sunroof cover mechanism. It does not replace but enhance the applicable repair instructions. Press the individual point for animation display of the corresponding operations.
- 3D animation, glass slide/tilt sunroof cover mechanism (steps 1 to 10 and 23 to 33)
Necessary preliminary tasks:
- Remove glass slide/tilt sunroof
- Remove glass slide/tilt sunroof lid at front
- Remove glass slide/tilt sunroof lid at rear
- Remove front water gutter
- Remove drive for slide/tilt sunroof actuation
Overview of glass lid mechanism:
NOTE:
Always replace mechanism for glass slide/tilt sunroof in pairs.
Remove all faulty parts completely from guide rail.
If necessary, lightly grease guide channel.
WARNING: Edges can be sharp. Danger of injury.
Unclip water channel (1) in direction of arrow (A) and lift off in direction of arrow (B).
NOTE: Observe step 1 of 3D animation.
IMPORTANT: Risk of damage to water gutter carrier.
Carefully unclip water gutter (1) upwards out of carrier (2).
Installation note:
Insert spring (arrow) onto water channel pivot point.
Make sure spring is correctly positioned in water gutter.
Installation note:
Before clipping in place, fold water channel (1) over in direction of arrow.
Installation note:
Observe installation sequence:
1. Suspend spring in water gutter carrier
2. Press water gutter onto glass slide/tilt sunroof
3. Clip pivot point (bearing) of water gutter into carrier
Check water gutter for spring tension.
Disconnect plug connection of electric motor for operating slide/tilt sunroof.
Move slide/tilt sunroof in direction of arrow using hexagon socket wrench (1) until mechanism (2) reaches wind deflector holder (3).
NOTE: Observe step 2 of 3D animation.
IMPORTANT: Secure drive with gearbox for actuating slide/tilt sunroof (2) against falling out.
Release screws (1), tightening torque 54 13 1AZ.
Remove drive with gearbox for actuating slide/tilt sunroof (2).
NOTE:
Observe step 3 (32) of 3D animation.
Screws (1) are microencapsulated.
Installation note:
Insert gear (1) of electric motor with gearbox for operating slide/tilt sunroof (2) exactly into gearing (3).
Bend open clamps of retaining rail (1) with suitable tool (2).
Lift retaining rail (1) in direction of arrow.
IMPORTANT: Do not damage plastic holder.
NOTE: Observe step 4 (29) of 3D animation.
Installation note:
Clamps (1) of retaining rail must be bent again.
Lift guide (1) of gate with suitable tool (2) in direction (A) and push in direction (B).
NOTE: Observe step 5 (28) of 3D animation.
Press gate (1) out of guide in direction (A) and lift in direction (B).
Installation note:
Observe grease instructions for replacement parts.
NOTE: Observe step 6 (27) of 3D animation.
NOTE: Distances (1) must be clear as shown so that gate (2) can be removed.
Installation note:
Ensure that lugs (1) are parallel to gate (2).
NOTE: Observe step 27 of 3D animation.
Push water channel carrier (1) back until drive wedge (2) is exposed.
NOTE: Observe step 7 (26) of 3D animation.
Fold drive wedge (1) upwards.
Remove drive wedge (1) to the side.
NOTE: Observe step 8 (25) of 3D animation.
Removing water gutter carrier and lower connecting link:
Slide water gutter carrier (2) with lower connecting link (1) towards rear.
Remove water gutter carrier with lower connecting link from guide rail.
NOTE: Observe step 9 (24) of 3D animation.
IMPORTANT:
Risk of damage when installing drive cable plate
The rear drive cable plate (2) must be engaged before the front drive cable plate (1) is installed.
Incorrect setting can be identified from spring position and lever position (marked area).
Check engaging of rear drive cable plate (2) in guide rail.
Slide in drive cable plate (1).
NOTE: Observe step 10 (23) of 3D animation.
If necessary, push slide element (1) towards rear and remove from guide rail.
Adjusting mechanism before installing glass lid:
Insert screwdriver into upper connecting link (3).
Slide drive plate (2) towards rear until drive wedge (1) runs against screwdriver.
NOTE:
An exact working procedure is required here. Mechanism must run on left and right exactly at one height.
Check that mechanical components on left and right sides have same status.
Observe step 31 of 3D animation.
Installation note:
Clean panorama glass roof guide rails.
Observe grease instructions for replacement parts.
NOTE:
Check smooth and noise-free running of kinematics.
Run a function check.
