Dimmer Switch: Service and Repair

FIXED COLUMN
1. Remove ignition lock as outlined under STEERING SUSPENSION CHASSIS AND BODY COMPONENTS/STEERING/COMPONENT REPLACEMENT AND REPAIR PROCEDURES/IGNITION LOCK.
2. Refer to Fig. 1, for ignition and dimmer switch replacement procedures.

TILT COLUMN
1. Remove ignition lock as outlined under STEERING SUSPENSION CHASSIS AND BODY COMPONENTS/STEERING/COMPONENT REPLACEMENT AND REPAIR PROCEDURES/IGNITION LOCK.
2. Remove housing as follows:
a. Reinstall tilt lever and place column in full Up position.
b. Pull upward on tilt lever and pull housing upward until it stops.
c. Move housing to right to disengage rack from actuator, then remove housing from steering column.
3. Refer to Fig. 2, for ignition and dimmer switch replacement procedures.
4. Install housing as follows:
a. While holding up on tilt lever to disengage lock shoes install over steering shaft.
b. Move rack downward and hold. Tip housing to the left until rack engages pin on actuator rod.
c. Push housing down until pivot pin holes are in alignment.
