Maintenance Reminder Control Module: Description and Operation


OIL LIFE MODULE:
The oil life module calculates engine oil life based on vehicle speed, engine temperature, distance traveled and engine revolutions. It receives this information over the serial data line from the PCM. When the oil life module determines that engine oil requires changing, it turns on the CHANGE OIL SOON indicator for approximately 60 seconds after ignition switch is turned to RUN. The oil life module has a set of diagnostic trouble codes; if an oil life monitor diagnostic trouble code is set, the CHANGE OIL SOON indicator is lit continuously. The CHANGE OIL SOON indicator lights for 3 seconds after ignition switch is turned to RUN as a bulb check.
