Fuel Filter: Service and Repair

NOTE: Before replacing a fuel filter it is necessary to relieve fuel system pressure. Service and Repair

REMOVAL:

The fuel filter is located under the rear of the car, in front of the fuel tank.

1. Raise car on hoist.

WARNING: System under pressure. Cover connection with a shop towel to collect the fuel when the fuel line is loosened. Store gasoline soaked towels in an approved container.

2. Disconnect the fuel feed pipe nut from filter using a back-up wrench to prevent damage to the filter and/or line.

Fuel "Quick-Connect" Fittings:





3. Disconnect quick-connect fitting by depressing tabs on male connector halve and pulling apart.
4. Remove the filter from the car.

INSTALLATION:

1. With a clean shop cloth, wipe the male tube ends of the filter.
2. Apply a few drops of clean engine oil to the male tube ends.
3. Place the filter loosely in position.
4. Push connector halves together, pressing firmly until they snap into place.
5. Pull on connector halves to make sure they are locked together.
6. Install fuel feed pipe w/nut on filter.
7. Torque to specification 30 Nm (22 lb.ft).

NOTE: Use a back-up wrench to prevent damage to the filter, "O" ring, or fuel line.

8. Secure the filter to the car.
9. Lower the car.
10. START the engine and inspect for leaks.
