Neutral Safety Switch: Service and Repair

1. Place vehicle in N.
2. Disconnect battery ground cable, then raise and support vehicle.
3. Disconnect electrical connector.
4. Remove switch harness from two retention clips, then lower vehicle.
5. Disconnect vacuum lines and electrical connector at cruise control servo, if equipped.
6. Detach servo, if equipped, and position out of way.
7. Disconnect shift lever at transaxle. Do not disconnect lever from cable.
8. Remove switch.
9. Reverse procedure to install, noting the following:
a. Align groove on inner sleeve of switch with groove on switch body.
b. Torque switch attaching bolts to 18 ft. lb.
c. Torque shift lever attaching nut to 15 ft. lb.
d. Torque cruise control servo retaining nut to 27 in lb.
