Catalytic Converter: Service and Repair

Removal Procedure

^ Tools Required
- J 29800 Cut-Off Tool

1. Remove the post converter heat shield.
2. Remove the oxygen sensor.
3. Support the catalytic converter.





4. Cut the exhaust pipes with the J 29800.





5. Remove the front exhaust pipe nuts.
6. Remove the seal.
7. Remove the catalytic converter assembly.

Installation Procedure





1. Install the front exhaust pipe and catalytic converter assembly using a U-bolt type clamp. Position the clamp so the nuts are toward the drivers side of vehicle.
2. Install the seal.

Notice: Refer to Fastener Notice in Service Precautions.





3. Install the front exhaust pipe to the catalytic converter nuts.
^ Tighten the nuts to 25 Nm (18 ft. lbs.).

^ Tighten the clamp to 40 Nm (30 ft. lbs.).

4. Install the oxygen sensor.
5. Install the post converter heat shield.
