Catalytic Converter Description

Notice: The catalytic converters require the use of unleaded fuel only. Using leaded fuel will damage the catalytic converters and other emission system components.

The catalytic converter is an emission-control device added to the gasoline engine exhaust system to reduce hydrocarbons, carbon monoxide, and nitrogen oxide pollutants from the exhaust gas. The gasoline engine in this vehicle has a three-way catalytic converter that uses rhodium. The catalyst in the converter is not serviceable.

The three-way catalytic converter is mounted in the exhaust manifold pipe located between the right (rear) exhaust manifold and the exhaust system.

The system uses a exhaust manifold pipe gasket and a catalytic converter gasket for sealing. Always replace the exhaust manifold pipe gasket and the catalytic converter gasket when a service procedure requires disrupting the flanged joints.
The three-way catalytic converter has a tapped hole for the heated oxygen sensor (HO2S).
