HVAC System - Automatic




REMOVAL PROCEDURE
1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
2. Remove the air cleaner and duct assembly.
3. Remove the cross vehicle brace, if equipped.
4. Recover the refrigerant. Refer to Refrigerant Recovery and Recharging. Service and Repair
5. Remove the accessory drive belt.
6. Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle.
7. Remove the lower air deflector.
8. Remove the right side engine splash shield.
9. Disconnect the electrical connector from the compressor.
10. Remove the compressor hose assembly from rear of the compressor.
11. Remove the compressor rear mounting bolts.
12. Remove the compressor front mounting nuts.
13. Remove the compressor.
14. Remove the compressor bracket with the mounting bolts, if necessary.

INSTALLATION PROCEDURE

NOTICE: Refer to Fastener Notice in Service Precautions.

1. Install the compressor bracket upper mounting bolt, if necessary.

Tighten
Tighten the compressor bracket upper bolt to 50 N.m (37 lb ft).

2. Install the compressor bracket lower mounting bolt, if necessary.

Tighten
Tighten the compressor bracket lower bolt to 80 N.m (59 lb ft).

3. Install the compressor.
4. Install the compressor front nuts.

Tighten
Tighten the compressor front nuts to 100 N.m (74 lb ft).

5. Install the compressor rear bolts.

Tighten
Tighten the Compressor rear bolts to 31 N.m (23 lb ft).

IMPORTANT: Lubricate the new sealing washers with mineral base 525 viscosity refrigerant oil.

6. Install the compressor hose assembly to the rear of the compressor.
7. Connect the electrical connector to the compressor.
8. Install the lower air deflector.
9. Install the right side engine splash shield.
10. Lower the vehicle.
11. Install the accessory drive belt.
12. Evacuate and recharge the A/C system. Refer to Refrigerant Recovery and Recharging.
13. Inspect the A/C system for leaks. Refer to Leak Testing. Testing and Inspection
14. Install the cross vehicle brace, if equipped.
15. Install the air cleaner and duct assembly.
16. Connect the negative battery cable. Refer to Battery Negative Cable Disconnect/Connect Procedure in Starting and Charging Systems.
