Handling Refrigerant R-134A

Refrigerant-134a (R-134a) is contained in the air conditioning system in this vehicle.
Use the following special handling procedures whenever you use R-134a in order to avoid personal injury:
^ Wear goggles whenever you open the refrigerant system.
^ Wrap clean cloths around the following areas whenever you open the refrigeration system:
- The fillings
- The valves
- The connections
^ Work in a well ventilated area. Do not breathe any refrigerant fumes.
^ Do not weld or steam clean on or near any vehicle-installed air conditioning lines or components.
^ Complete the following actions if some of the R-134a comes into contact with any part of your body:
^ Flush the exposed area with water.
^ Seek medical attention immediately.
^ Refer to Handling of Refrigerant Lines and Fittings and Maintaining Chemical Stability before you begin any service that requires opening the refrigerant system lines or components.
^ Be sure to carefully follow the instructions for the following services:
- Refrigerant recovery and recycling
- Adding oil
- Evacuating the refrigeration system
- Recharging the refrigeration system
^ All of the Refrigerant-134a disposable (colored blue) containers are shipped with a heavy metal screw cap. The cap protects the valve and the safety plug of the container from damage. Replace the cap after each use of the container in order to continue to protect the valve and the safety plug.
