Instrument Panel (IP) - Trim Pad Replacement

REMOVAL PROCEDURE





CAUTION: Before servicing any electrical component, the ignition key must be in the OFF or LOCK position and all electrical loads must be OFF, unless instructed otherwise in these procedures. If a tool or equipment could easily come in contact with a live exposed electrical terminal, also disconnect the negative battery cable. Failure to follow these precautions may cause personal injury and/or damage to the vehicle or its components.

CAUTION: This vehicle has a Supplemental Inflatable Restraint (SIR) System. Refer to SIR Component Views in order to determine whether you are performing service on or near the SIR components or the SIR wiring. When you are performing service on or near the SIR components or the SIR wiring, refer to Repair Instructions in SIR. Failure to follow the CAUTIONS could cause air bag deployment, personal injury, or unnecessary SIR system repairs.


1. Disconnect the negative cable.
2. Disable the SIR system.
3. Remove the windshield side upper garnish moldings.
4. Remove the instrument panel upper trim panel.
5. Remove the front floor console, if equipped.
6. Remove the LH and RH instrument panel insulators.
7. Remove the bolts from the bottom of the steering column opening filler.
8. Pull the steering column opening filler rearward and upward unsnapping from the instrument panel.
9. Disconnect the electrical connector from the Drive Information Center (DIC), if equipped.
10. Remove the steering column opening filler.




11. Remove the retaining bolts from the knee bolster at the IP.




12. Remove the retaining bolts from the knee bolster at the steering column support.
13. Remove the knee bolster from the IP.




14. Remove the steering column.
15. Remove the bolts from the hood release the handle base and position aside.




16. Remove the Data Link Connector (DLC) bolts and position DLC harness aside.
17. Remove the front door inside carpet retainers.
18. Remove the IP accessory trim plate it equipped.
19. Remove the instrument panel cluster trim plate.
20. Remove the inside air temperature sensor, if equipped.
21. Remove the headlamp switch.
22. Remove the IP cluster retaining bolts.
23. Rotate the top of the cluster rearward and disengage the locating pins on the bottom of the cluster at the instrument panel.




24. Disconnect the electrical connector.
25. Remove the IP cluster.




26. Remove the audio system.
27. Remove the HVAC control assembly.
28. Open the Instrument Panel (IP) compartment.
29. Release the loop of the damper cord (1) from the IP support.
30. Remove the screws from the IP compartment hinge.




31. Press inward on both sides of the IP compartment housing and rotate down and out of IP.




32. Release the IP compartment lamp by depressing the retaining clips.
33. Disconnect the electrical connector and remove the IP compartment lamp.




34. Disconnect the fuse block from the cross vehicle beam by releasing locking tab and position the fuse block aside.
35. Remove the right side (end) IP retaining bolts.




36. Remove the center and lower IP retaining bolts.




37. Remove the left side (end) IP retaining bolts.




38. Remove the upper IP retaining bolts.
39. Reposition the IP wiring harness away from the IP trim pad.
40. Carefully remove the IP trim pad from the vehicle.

INSTALLATION PROCEDURE




1. Carefully install the Instrument Panel (IP) trim pad to the vehicle.
2. Install the IP wiring harness to the IP trim pad.

NOTE: Refer to Fastener Notice in Cautions and Notices.

3. Install the upper IP retaining bolts.

Tighten
Tighten the IP trim pad upper bolts to 5 N.m (44 lb in).




4. Install the left side (end) IP retaining bolts.

Tighten
Tighten the IP trim pad left side bolts to 20 N.m (15 lb ft).




5. Install the center and lower IP retaining bolts.

Tighten
Tighten the IP trim pad center and lower bolts to 5 N.m (44 lb in).




6. Install the right side (end) IP retaining bolts.

Tighten
Tighten the IP trim pad right side bolts to 20 N.m (15 lb ft).




7. Align the fuse block to the cross vehicle beam and install the fuse block securing the locking tab.
8. Connect the electrical connector to the IP compartment lamp.
9. Install the IP compartment lamp into the IP.




10. Align the IP compartment housing to the IP.
11. Press inward on both sides of the IP compartment housing and rotate upward and into the IP.
12. Hand tighten the screws to the IP compartment hinge.
13. Align the IP compartment housing to the IP for the proper fit.

Tighten
Tighten the IP compartment hinge screws to 2 N.m (18 lb in).




14. Open the IP compartment.
15. Connect the loop of the damper cord (1) to the IP support.
16. Close the IP compartment.




17. Install the HVAC control assembly.
18. Install the audio system.
19. Connect the electrical connector to the IP cluster.




20. Install the IP cluster, position the locating pins on the bottom of the cluster to the pin receivers in the instrument panel.
21. Install the bolts to the IP cluster.

Tighten
Tighten the IP cluster bolts to 2 N.m (18 lb in).




22. Install the headlamp switch.
23. Install the inside air temperature sensor, if equipped.
24. Install the instrument panel cluster trim plate.
25. Install the IP accessory trim plate if equipped.
26. Install the front door inside carpet retainers.
27. Position the Data Link Connector (DLC) to the IP and install the retaining bolts.

Tighten
Tighten the data link connector bolts to 2 N.m (18 lb in).

28. Install the hood release handle to the Instrument Panel (IP).
29. Install the bolts to the hood release handle base.

Tighten
Tighten the hood release handle bolts to 2 N.m (18 lb in).




30. Install the steering column.
31. Install the knee bolster to the Instrument Panel (IP).
32. Install the bolts to the knee bolster at the steering column support.

Tighten
Tighten the knee bolster bolts at the steering column support to 10 N.m (89 lb in).




33. Install the bolts to the knee bolster at the IP.

Tighten
Tighten the knee bolster bolts at IP to 2 N.m (18 lb in).




34. Connect the electrical connector to the Driver Information Center (DIC), if equipped.
35. Align the steering column opening panel locating pins and the retainers clip to the slots in the IP.
36. Press the steering column opening filler to lock in the retainers.
37. Install the bolts to the bottom of the steering column opening panel.

Tighten
Tighten the steering column opening panel bolts to 2 N.m (18 lb in).

38. Install the LH and RH instrument panel insulators.
39. Install the front floor console, if equipped.
40. Install the instrument panel upper trim panel.
41. Install the windshield side upper garnish moldings.
42. Enable the SIR system.
43. Connect the negative cable.
