Displaying & Reading Trouble Codes

Read the diagnostic trouble codes through the use of the scan tool. No provisions exist for flash code diagnostics. Refer to the Scan Tool Manual for specific directions or instructions for the scan tool. The scan tool may allow the technician to perform the following steps:
1. Read the data list.
2. Read the current and history diagnostic trouble codes.
3. Clear the diagnostic trouble codes after a repair has been completed.

Ensure that the scan tool contains an updated cartridge before attempting to communicate with the instrument cluster. In order to use the scan tool, perform the following steps:
1. Connect the scan tool to the Data Link Connector (DLC).
2. Turn the ignition switch to the RUN position. The scan tool reads the serial data sent from the instrument cluster serial data output terminal B1 to the DLC terminal 2.
