Intermittents and Poor Connections - Variable Effort Steering (VES)

Intermittent malfunctions are difficult to accurately diagnose. The following method attempts to isolate an intermittent malfunction, especially a malfunction in the wheel circuitry:

- The Antilock Brake System (ABS)/Traction Control System (TCS) warning lamps do NOT illuminate during the ignition cycle when a MAGNASTEER(R) malfunction is detected.
- The diagnostic trouble code stores when the malfunction occurs.
- The history data of the DTC stores at the time the malfunction occurs.
- Use the scan tool in order to read DTC history data.
