Instrument Panel (IP) - Trim Pad Replacement




Instrument Panel Trim Pad Replacement

Removal Procedure

1. Disconnect the negative battery cable. Refer to Battery Negative Cable Disconnection and Connection in Engine Electrical.
2. Disable the SIR system. Refer to Disabling the SIR System in Restraint (SIR) System.
3. Remove the windshield side upper garnish moldings. Refer to Windshield Pillar Garnish Molding Replacement (Windshield Pillar Garnish Molding Replacement) in Interior Trim.
4. Remove the instrument panel upper trim panel. Refer to Instrument Panel Upper Trim Pad Replacement (Service and Repair).
5. Remove the front floor console, if equipped. Refer to Front Floor Console Replacement (Front Floor Console Replacement).
6. Remove the left and the right instrument panel insulators. Refer to Instrument Panel Insulator Replacement (LH) (Instrument Panel (IP) - Insulator Replacement - Left)Instrument Panel Insulator Replacement (RH) (Instrument Panel (IP) - Insulator Replacement - Right).
7. Remove the steering column opening filler. Refer to Steering Column Opening Filler Replacement (Steering Column Opening Filler).
8. Remove the instrument panel knee bolster. Refer to Knee Bolster Replacement (Service and Repair).
9. Remove the steering column. Refer to Steering Column Replacement in Steering Wheel and Column - Tilt.
10. Remove the hood latch release handle. Refer to Hood Primary Latch Release Cable Handle Replacement (Hood Primary Latch Release Cable Handle Replacement) in Body Front End.
11. Remove the bolts from the data link connector and position DLC harness aside.
12. Remove the front door inside carpet retainers. Refer to Front Side Door Opening Floor Carpet Retainer Replacement (Front Side Door Opening Floor Carpet Retainer Replacement) in Interior Trim.
13. Remove the instrument panel accessory trim plate. Refer to Instrument Panel Accessory Trim Plate Replacement (Instrument Panel (IP) - Accessory Trim Plate Replacement)
14. Remove the instrument panel cluster trim plate. Refer to Instrument Cluster Trim Panel Replacement (Instrument Cluster Trim Panel Replacement).
15. Remove the inside air temperature sensor, if equipped. Refer to Inside Air Temperature Sensor Replacement in HVAC Systems - Automatic.
16. Remove the headlamp switch. Refer to Headlamp Switch Replacement in Lighting Systems.
17. Remove the instrument panel cluster. Refer to Instrument Cluster Replacement (Instrument Panel Cluster (IPC) - Replacement).
18. Remove the radio. Refer to Radio Replacement in Entertainment.
19. Remove the HVAC control assembly. Refer to control Assembly Replacement (CJ3) in HVAC - Manual or to Control Assembly Replacement (CJ2) in HVAC Systems - Automatic.
20. Remove the instrument panel compartment. Refer to Instrument Panel Compartment Replacement (Service and Repair).




21. Remove the bolts from the right side (end) instrument panel.




22. Remove the center and lower bolts from the instrument panel.




23. Remove the bolt from the left side (end) instrument panel.




24. Remove the bolts from the upper instrument panel.
25. Reposition the instrument panel wiring harness from the instrument panel assembly.
26. Remove the instrument panel assembly from the vehicle.

Installation Procedure

1. Position the instrument panel assembly to the vehicle.
2. Position the instrument panel wiring harness to the instrument panel assembly.





Notice: Refer to Fastener Notice in Cautions and Notices.

3. Install the bolts to the upper instrument panel assembly.

Tighten the upper instrument panel assembly bolts to 5 Nm (44 lb in).




4. Install the bolts to the left side (end) instrument panel assembly.

Tighten the instrument panel assembly left side bolts to 20 Nm (15 lb ft).




5. Install the bolts to the center and lower instrument panel assembly.

Tighten the instrument panel assembly center and lower bolts to 5 Nm (44 lb in).




6. Install the bolts to the right side (end) instrument panel assembly.

Tighten the instrument panel assembly right side bolts to 20 Nm (15 lb ft).

7. Align the fuse block to the cross vehicle beam and install the fuse block securing the locking tab.




8. Connect the electrical connector to the instrument panel assembly compartment lamp.
9. Install the instrument panel assembly compartment lamp into the instrument panel.
10. Install the instrument panel compartment. Refer to Instrument Panel Compartment Replacement (Service and Repair).
11. Install the HVAC control assembly. Refer to Control Assembly Replacement (CJ3) in HVAC Systems - Manual or to Control Assembly Replacement (CJ2) in HVAC Systems - Automatic.
12. Install the radio. Refer to Radio Replacement in Entertainment.
13. Install the instrument panel cluster. Refer to Instrument Cluster Replacement (Instrument Panel Cluster (IPC) - Replacement).
14. Install the headlamp switch. Refer to Headlamp Switch Replacement in Lighting Systems.
15. Install the inside air temperature sensor, if equipped. Refer to Inside Air Temperature Sensor Replacement in HVAC - Automatic.
16. Install the instrument panel cluster trim plate. Refer to Instrument Cluster Trim Panel Replacement (Instrument Cluster Trim Panel Replacement).
17. Install the IP accessory trim plate, if equipped. Refer to Instrument Panel Accessory Trim Plate Replacement (Instrument Panel (IP) - Accessory Trim Plate Replacement)
18. Install the front door inside carpet retainers. Refer to Front Side Door Opening Floor Carpet Retainer Replacement (Front Side Door Opening Floor Carpet Retainer Replacement) in Interior Trim.
19. Connect the data link connector (DLC) to the IP and install the bolts.

Tighten the data link connector bolts to 2 Nm (18 lb in).

20. Install the hood latch release handle. Refer to Hood Primary Latch Release Cable Handle Replacement (Hood Primary Latch Release Cable Handle Replacement) in Body Front End.
21. Install the steering column. Refer to Steering Column Replacement in Steering Wheel and Column - Tilt.
22. Install the knee bolster to the instrument panel. Refer to Knee Bolster Replacement (Service and Repair).
23. Connect the electrical connector to the driver information center (DIC), if equipped.
24. Install the steering column opening filler. Refer to Steering Column Opening Filler Replacement (Steering Column Opening Filler).
25. Install the left and the right instrument panel insulators. Refer to Instrument Panel Insulator Replacement (LH) (Instrument Panel (IP) - Insulator Replacement - Left)Instrument Panel Insulator Replacement (RH) (Instrument Panel (IP) - Insulator Replacement - Right).
26. Install the front floor console, if equipped. Refer to Front Floor Console Replacement (Front Floor Console Replacement).
27. Install the instrument panel upper trim panel. Refer to Instrument Panel Upper Trim Pad Replacement (Service and Repair).
28. Install the windshield side upper garnish moldings. Refer to Windshield Pillar Garnish Molding Replacement (Windshield Pillar Garnish Molding Replacement) in Interior Trim.
29. Enable the SIR system. Refer to Enabling the SIR System in Restraint (SIR).
30. Connect the negative battery cable. Refer to Battery Negative Cable Disconnection and Connection in Engine Electrical.
