Engine Controls - Oil Level Switch Elimination

File In Section: 06 - Engine/propulsion System

Bulletin No.: 03-06-04-020

Date: March, 2003

INFORMATION

Subject:
Elimination of Engine Oil Level Switch

Models:
2003 Buick Century
2003 Chevrolet Malibu
2003 Oldsmobile Alero
2003 Pontiac Grand Am
with 3.1L or 3.4L V-6 Engine (VINs J, E - RPOs LG8, LA1)

The above listed vehicles will no longer contain an engine oil level switch beginning with vehicles built on the dates shown.

The engine oil pan is being revised and will not contain a provision for the switch. All service engines will be built with the switch hole. When replacing engine assemblies, the dealer should transfer the existing oil pan to the new engine for vehicles that do not contain a switch. Parts catalogs will be revised to show both a first design oil pan, with the switch hole, and a second design oil pan, without the switch hole. Be sure to check the vehicle before ordering an oil pan.
