Crankshaft Position Sensor: Service and Repair



CRANKSHAFT POSITION (CKP) SENSOR REPLACEMENT

REMOVAL PROCEDURE




1. Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to Vehicle Lifting.
2. Position the catalytic converter out of the way. Refer to Exhaust Seal Replacement.
3. Disconnect the coolant heater cord from the coolant heater, if equipped.
4. Disconnect the engine harness electrical connector (2) from the crankshaft position (CKP) sensor.




5. Remove the CKP sensor stud.
6. Remove the CKP sensor.
7. Inspect the CKP sensor O-ring for wear or damage if the sensor is not being replaced, replace the seal as necessary.

INSTALLATION PROCEDURE




1. Lubricate the sensor O-ring with clean engine oil before installation and/or replace the O-ring, if necessary.
2. Install the CKP sensor.
3. Install the CKP sensor stud.

NOTE: Refer to Fastener Notice.

Tighten the stud to 10 N.m (89 lb in).




4. Connect the engine harness electrical connector (2) to the CKP sensor.
5. Connect the coolant heater cord to the coolant heater, if equipped.
6. Position the catalytic converter. Refer to Exhaust Seal Replacement.
7. Lower the vehicle.
8. Perform the CKP system variation learn procedure. Refer to CKP System Variation Learn Procedure.
