Steering Column Trim Covers Replacement

Removal Procedure

Caution: Refer to Restraint System Service Precautions.

1. Disable the SIR system.

Caution: Refer to Battery Disconnect Caution.

2. Disconnect the battery negative cable.
3. Remove the steering wheel.
4. Remove the knee bolster.
5. Remove the gap hider.




6. Remove the tilt lever (1).




7. Disconnect the closeout trim cover from the lower steering column trim cover.
8. Gently unsnap the lower trim cover from the upper trim cover.




9. Lift the upper trim cover to gain access to the lock cylinder access hole.
10. Using a bent tip awl, insert the tip into the access hole in the ignition lock cylinder.




11. Turn the ignition lock cylinder to the START position.
12. Using the bent tip awl push down on the retaining pin of the ignition lock cylinder.
13. Release the ignition lock cylinder to the RUN position and remove the lock cylinder.




14. Remove the upper steering column trim cover.
15. If necessary, remove the closeout trim cover from the upper trim cover.

Installation Procedure




1. If necessary, install the upper steering column trim cover to the closeout trim cover.
2. Install the upper trim cover to the steering column.
3. Install the ignition lock cylinder.




4. Install the lower trim cover and ensure that the tabs engage with the tabs on the upper trim cover.
Snap the tabs together.
5. Connect the lower steering column trim cover to the closeout trim cover.




6. Install the tilt lever (1).
7. Install the gap hider.
8. Install the knee bolster.
9. Install the steering wheel.
10. Connect the battery negative cable.
11. Enable the SIR system.
