Crankshaft Position Sensor: Service and Repair




Crankshaft Position Sensor Replacement

Removal Procedure

Crankshaft Position Sensor Shield:




1. Disconnect the negative battery cable. Refer to Battery Negative Cable Disconnection and Connection (L26) (Service and Repair)Battery Negative Cable Disconnection and Connection (LS4) (Service and Repair).
2. Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle (Service and Repair).
3. Remove the crankshaft harmonic balancer. Refer to Crankshaft Balancer Replacement (Service and Repair).
4. Disconnect the crankshaft position (CKP) sensor electrical connector.
5. Remove the CKP sensor shield (1). DO NOT use a pry bar.




6. Remove the CKP sensor studs.
7. Remove the CKP sensor.

Installation Procedure




1. Install the CKP sensor.

Caution: Refer to Fastener Caution (Fastener Caution).

2. Install the CKP sensor studs.

Tighten the studs to 30 Nm (22 lb ft).

Crankshaft Position Sensor Shield:




3. Install the CKP sensor shield (1).
4. Connect the CKP sensor electrical connector.
5. Install the crankshaft harmonic balancer. Refer to Crankshaft Balancer Replacement (Service and Repair).
6. Lower the vehicle.
7. Connect the negative battery cable. Refer to Battery Negative Cable Disconnection and Connection (L26) (Service and Repair)Battery Negative Cable Disconnection and Connection (LS4) (Service and Repair).
8. Perform the crankshaft position system variation learn procedure. Refer to Crankshaft Position System Variation Learn (Service and Repair).
