Operation CHARM: Car repair manuals for everyone.
Manuals through 2025 now available!

Our trusted friends have launched a new website named LEMON, which has newer manuals. It also contains all the CHARM manuals.

LEMON is the spiritual successor to CHARM, I recommend you try it!

Code .7.7 Cruise Control Resume Acceleration Circuit

Fig. 32 Cruise control wiring circuit. 1984:

The cruise control resume acceleration switch sends a 12 volt signal to the ECM when the resume/acceleration switch is depressed. Code .7.7 indicates that the ECM is not receiving the 12 volt signal from the resume/acceleration switch when the switch is depressed. To diagnose the system, proceed as follows:
1. Turn ignition switch and instrument panel cruise control switch On.
2. Connect one lead of voltmeter J-29125 or equivalent to ground and the other lead to orange ECM connector pin E.
3. If reading at pin E is 12 volts, disconnect orange connector at ECM and measure voltage at pin E. If reading is 12 volts, check for short in power feed of circuit 87. If circuit is satisfactory, replace resume/acceleration switch. If reading at pin E is zero volts, ECM or ECM connector is at fault.
4. If reading of zero volts is obtained at pin E prior to disconnecting orange ECM connector, depress resume/accelerator switch and measure voltage at pin E. If reading is zero volts, check for open or short to ground in circuit 87 or for open in circuit 903 (1985, 397). If circuits are satisfactory, replace resume/acceleration switch. If reading at pin E is 12 volts with resume/acceleration switch depressed, ECM or ECM connector is at fault.
